The South West
Naturally, Bristol is the hub, but the South West opens up to many wonderful counties such as Devon, referred to by some as ‘England’s favourite playground’. Outside of Bristol, the South West has strong agriculture and tourism industries but has also seen major regeneration projects, including the Eden Project, and has a thriving business community.
This diverse county of Devon with outstanding National Parks and an inspiring coastline has the two major cities of Exeter and the historic port city of Plymouth. Leading firms in Devon include Foot Anstey, Michelmores, Ashfords and Bond Pearce. Being only a relatively short distance from Bristol there is good competition for work and for staff.
Other commercial centres are the spa towns of Bath and Cheltenham where you discover national firm Charles Russell, niche firm Wiggin and regional firmWithy King. The rich and diverse heritage of the counties of Wiltshire and Somerset are home to the great national icon, Stonehenge, and also make up part of the tapestry of the West Country life. Leading firms in these areas include Battens, Wilsons and national firm ClarkeWillmott.
Outside of these centres when you look across a number of major towns there are excellent long established leading commercial and also high street firms. Further down the coast in Cornwall, where quality of life attracts many ex City lawyers, a number of niche commercial firms continue to attract City work and City clients at competitive rates. So, although you will not be paid City rates you can still enjoy a challenging mix of work
